About the Job
OMB Watch is seeking a Development Associate to expand its one-person development department focused on developing, implementing, and administering fundraising goals and strategies. We are a 20-person, $2.5 million per year 501(c)(3) social justice organization that focuses on government accountability and citizen participation. In particular, we address federal budget issues, regulatory policy, access to government information, and protection of nonprofit advocacy rights. We provide analyses to help nonprofits, the news media, and policy makers understand issues, and, where appropriate, advocacy to advance our issues. Much of our work is done through coalition building.
Most of the organization's resources come from private foundations. A small percentage is raised from individual donors, the Combined Federal Campaign, and other sources.
The Development Associate reports directly to the Development Director. While the Development Associate will be engaged in all aspects of the organization's fundraising, a key emphasis will be on prospect research, including foundations and individuals.
- Research and identify prospective funding sources including funder interests, requirements, and deadlines;
- Collaborate with Program Directors and the Development Director to develop letters of inquiry, proposals and reports for foundations, and help ensure all deadlines and guidelines are met;
- Work in concert with the Development Director and Communications Coordinator to conduct direct mail and online fund solicitations and complete applications to federated funds and other special sources;
- Help maintain administrative systems for tracking grants and contributions, ensure timely acknowledgment of donors, and develop individual donor lists;
- Help establish and maintain development-related website pages; and,
- Others duties as assigned by the Director of Development or the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the grantmaking community, foundation research tools, and proposal preparation;
- Excellent writing and editing skills, especially the ability to translate technical policy issues into clear, accurate prose;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Knowledge of, or interest in, public interest issues or social justice, and be prepared to learn the substantive issues OMB Watch engages in;
- Creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor;
- Bachelor's degree; and,
- At least 2 years relevant experience.
Salary
$30,000 - 40,000 (depending on experience) with comprehensive benefits. We may also consider a more senior level individual in a part-time position of at least 20 hours per week.
