Job Announcement: Environmental Right-to-Know Advocate

OMB Watch is seeking a candidate to work on public access to environmental and health information and promoting policies for a more open government. The Advocate will also help manage a network of activists and public interests organizations interested in using environmental and health data held by government agencies.

Candidates should have between one and three years in relevant work experience and demonstrate: an ability to think critically and analytically; strong research skills; clear, succinct writing on policy issues; and experience building and maintaining coalitions. Familiarity with website administration, HTML coding, and e-advocacy are a plus. The candidate should be able to work independently, while also being able to work as part of a closely integrated team.

Responsibilities of the job include:
  • Monitoring news, legislation, and other releases for relevant developments and analyze for public access consequences with a special emphasis on environmental information;
  • Engaging grassroots around key campaigns to protect and advance relevant environmental and broader right to know issues, including coordination of an environmental right-to-know network;
  • Managing a new environmental right to know web site, including the posting of articles, news items, legislative alerts and the development of communication tools for the network;
  • Writing articles, analyses, fact sheets, and action alerts on environmental and public health related concerns and assist on public access issues;
  • Coordinate federal legislative campaigns relevant to environmental and health issues; and
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Salary: $29,000 - $36,000 DOE, with comprehensive benefits
