URGENT: Graham and Lieberman Attempt to Spread Torture Photo Exemption Like a Virus

Senators Graham (R-SC) and Lieberman (I-CT) have now attached their amendment to exempt photos of detainees in U.S. custody from the Freedom of Information Act to a bill meant to enable the FDA to regulate tobacco.

The duo first attempted to put this amendment in a supplemental war spending bill.  It seems that the torture photo exemption has been stripped from that bill.  However, Graham and Lieberman are now on a crusade to add the provision to every moving bill until it passes.  The extremely aggressive attempt to undermine FOIA not only furthers secrecy in our government but also slows the progress of legislation moving through Congress.

Please contact your Senator today and urge them to not support this ammendment and stress the importance of FOIA.

We should also write to Rep.

We should also write to Rep. Frank to thank him for stripping the bill of this ammendment. The Senate tried to slip this through without anyone noticing. But I think these latest threats by Lieberman and Graham will serve to draw attention to the issue. People might start to wonder what exactly is in these photos... Photographs of torture don't endanger our troops; TORTURE endangers our troops.
