Gary Therkildsen: Federal Fiscal Policy Analyst

Gary Therkildsen works in OMB Watch's Federal Fiscal Policy program as a Federal Fiscal Policy Analyst. Gary's particular areas of research include the federal procurement process, the estate tax, IRS tax enforcement, and procurement lobbying reform.

Before his time at OMB Watch, Gary served as a police officer with the U.S. Capitol Police [1]. This position not only solidified Gary's commitment to public service, but also provided him with a unique perspective on the daily workings of Congress, piquing his curiosity in politics and public policy. In the lead-up to the 2008 presidential election, Gary resigned from law enforcement and joined Obama for America, working as a field organizer in Ohio.

Gary graduated from Mount Saint Mary's University [2] with a B.S. in Business Administration & Finance. He also holds a Master's in History and Public Policy from George Washington University [3].

When not at work, Gary enjoys reading, running, and Bikram yoga. A baseball junkie, he attempts to balance his love for the game with the oft disappointment that comes from being a Baltimore Orioles fan.
